DS Daily: Let's talk Blood of Bahamut

Yesterday, we were all blessed with first images and video of the upcoming Square Enix DS game, Blood of Bahamut. Naturally, we're totally psyched for the game and liked what we saw yesterday. Of course, everyone might not feel the same, so toss your two cents in here. Do you think Blood of Bahamut looks like a good time, or are you not interested at all? What has got you so pumped for the game? What has turned you off about it? Opinions, please!

DS Daily: Accessory slowdown

We love DS accessories. Cases, styli, Famicom cartridge adapters, replacement casings with damn llamas unicycling on them -- buying stuff to use with our DS Lites is almost as enjoyable as buying stuff to use in
our DS Lites.

But a new DS is on the way, and we have yet to make a decision about our purchase intent -- well, Eric seems to have arrived at a decision, but the rest of us are situated somewhere in the fence area.

Have you stalled on DS or DS Lite accessory purchases since the announcement of the DSi? You wouldn't want to have a Gachapin DS Lite protector in your home and not be able to use it.

DS Daily: Your Club Nintendo

The last time we talked about what we might want from Club Nintendo, we restricted our discussion mainly to soundtracks. Today, we want to open it up, and not just to those of us in North America dreaming of what's to come -- no, we've got questions for everyone. If you are in North America, what past goodies are you hoping for most? Anything from our retrospective? If you're already enjoying the fruits of Club Nintendo, what do you like best about it? What other items are you hoping for, or would you like to see?

DS Daily: Adventures through time

In the comments area of our recent post about the adventure game Lux-Pain, a discussion popped up about length in adventure games. Basically, they tend to be short. Some people avoid some adventures because of this (a problem that is exacerbated by the fact that most adventure games have zero replay value), and some accept it (understanding that an adventure game requires a great deal more dialogue than most other games).

Where do you stand on this issue? Do you love adventure games, but wish they could be longer? Do you steer clear of them in general in an effort to get the most game time out of your money?

DS Daily: Long or short?

Earlier this week, we invoked the spirit of our Gaming to Go column and asked you about your favorite DS games to play when you're out and about. Today, however, we'd like to ask you something more basic. Do you prefer those quick and dirty sessions, or would you rather snuggle up with the DS for hours of play? We know some gamers who prefer only to play their handhelds for short bursts. Is the DS comfortable for you in long bouts of gaming?

DS Daily: Your Final choice?

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time‎ utilizes a specifically designed game engine that allows Wii and DS owners to play online together.

Both versions of the title will look, sound, and cost (¥5,040 in Japan) the same, but there are slight benefits to each. Even with its screen-within-a-screen design, the Wii game will still feature a larger viewing area when hooked up to your TV, while the DS edition obviously has the bonus of increased portability. If you are getting Echoes of Time, which platform will you be buying it for, and why?

DS Daily: So did you import one?

We know we asked you before it released if you were going to import, but now that the Nintendo DSi has hit shelves in Japan, did you? We couldn't help ourselves, so we imagine at least some of you probably imported one. If so, how are you enjoying it? What's your favorite aspect of the redesign? If you didn't import one, what made you hold off?

DS Daily: Your favorite game for on-the-go

In the spirit of Gaming to Go, we ask which title (or titles) you find especially good to play while you're on-the-go? We've been talking about our most treasured pick-up-and-play games for travel or those with little time to game for quite some time now, so we figured we'd ask you all some of your favorites. Which games do you find especially good for when you're on-the-go?

DS Daily: Dual Screen Songs

Thanks to powerful, feature-rich music creation software like Korg DS-10 and Jam Sessions and weird musical toys like Electroplankton and Axe, the DS has become a multifaceted instrument for electronic music.

If you've been using your DS for music, we'd love to hear about it! And, of course, hear it. But also, we'd like to talk about the experience. Is it enjoyable or frustrating? Is the portability convenient enough to positively affect your musical life? Is the software powerful enough for you to accomplish anything?

DS Daily: Gamer shirts

We have to admit to falling for the occasional gamer shirt, but as with pretty much everything, the Fanboy collective tends to like things that are a little off-the-wall, which means we don't go for too many tees. Do you own any gaming t-shirts? Many gaming t-shirts? Tell us about them!

DS Daily: Record Club Nintendo

The Japanese Club Nintendo store was updated this week with a soundtrack CD for Kirby Super Star Ultra. Now, we're almost certain (because we're pessimists) that we won't get neat items like that on our own Club Nintendo page, and instead we'll be "treated" to the opportunity to exchange points for wallpapers that would have just been free before.

But if we do get stuff like this, will you be interested? If so, would you be interested in Nintendo game soundtracks for collecting-related reasons or listening-related? Do any DS games stand out as soundtrack-worthy? It totally counts if you already have the soundtrack. And would charging points instead of money affect your thought process?

DS Daily: Evaluation

Now that the DSi is moving us into a newish era of Nintendo handheld gaming, it's a good time to look back on the DS library so far. Most of us seem pretty happy with the selection that's build up over the year, but do you feel there's been a good distribution of genres and plenty of replayable games? Great concepts? Too much of anything, or too little of another?

DS Daily: Buy? Or sell?

Yesterday, in the "lolwut?" moment of November so far, we heard that Nintendo is making a game that will teach John Q. Public the ins and outs of the economy. Because Nintendo knows a thing or two about making games, we trust it will be an engaging experience, and the economy is something we'd like to be better informed about.

Then again, the subject matter also seems random, and something that wouldn't be overly useful to many DS owners. We can understand stuff like Professor Kageyama's Math Training (most of us use math every day, and increased mental sharpness with numbers is handy) and My Japanese Coach (Japan and its language are fascinating, and many gamers have an interest in the culture), but would you regard an economy-based training game as practical to your needs? Would you purchase it?

DS Daily: Surprised by license

JC wrote up a most excellent review for Dragon Ball Origins yesterday. If you haven't read it, you certainly should. Go on. We'll wait.

Back? Good. See, his review talks about a licensed game surprising him, in terms of production values and overall quality. A fun, licensed game? Shocking, we know.

There are a few out there, though. What licensed games have you found to be above the rest? They don't have to be on the DS necessarily, so feel free to shout out any. We just want to know!

DS Daily: RTS vs RPG

\We're having a showdown of the genres this morning. When it comes to playing on the DS, which do you prefer, real-time strategy games or turn-based roleplaying games? Each genre has quite the representation on the handheld, so we figured it was a good question to ask. So, which wins?

Not a big fan of either? Okay, tell us why!
